WHY YOUR CAR WON’T START?

Are you trying to get to work or back home and your Car Won’t Start? There are many situations like this and you have to do all you can in order to understand what causes this issue and how you can deal with it properly. With that in mind, if your car doesn’t start at all, here are some tips to help you in such a situation!

Start with the battery

Most of the time the main car care concern you need to have here is definitely the dead battery. Things like this can appear and you have to test your battery. Usually a battery tester will do the trick quite nicely, although you can also try to jump start your battery if you can. Of course, there’s always the option to replace your old battery with a new one. This should be the first thing that you need to focus on, if the car won’t start after the battery diagnosis or replacement you need to delve deeper.

Symptoms

If you want to figure out why the car doesn’t start, you have to look at the symptoms. It could be the starter if it’s not the battery. If it makes a clicking noise but doesn’t start at all, this usually shows a battery issue. You should try to see if the wiring and starter are working properly or not.

If the car is silent when you start turning the ignition, you should check the terminal cable connections and the battery. We recommend you to check the cables for corrosion, if that’s the case then you need to replace them with new ones.

Also, when it rains and the car won’t start you should immediately check the distributor cap and see if there’s any water or dampness there. If that’s the case, you just need to turn that cap upside down and then you should add in solvent on it. Let it dry out on its own!

Tips for the advanced users

A great car care tip when the car is cranking and it won’t start is to see if there is an electrical spark going through the spark plugs. These should be working properly if not you have to replace them. In case everything is fine though, you should try to see if the fuel supply reaches the engine.

On the other hand, if the engine has misses, you have to check the distributor, spark plugs, accelerator pump and timing. These can help you get a much better experience. Also, try to check the timing belt when you deal with engine pings or knocks. These do appear from time to time and you should try to do a compression check on the engine, all while figuring out if there are any coolant system problems.

If your car doesn’t start, these are the options that you need to focus on. Remember that these tips are great for beginners, however if you want to deal with these problems in an efficient manner you should work with a professional!
